Curse of Shadows and Thorns ... Review

So I started this series.  I didn't know that much about it, but it was on my recommended list.

... spoilers below if you've never read Blood and Ash or  this book

It is the exact same story as Blood and Ash (the first book). The purpose of the MMC is different. But the rest is the... exact... same...

It is the exact same story as Blood and Ash (the first book). The purpose of the MMC is different. But the rest is the... exact... same...

• They meet in a bar that she sneaks out with her family
• He is good looking and everyone wants to be with him
• He has 2 friends that seem to know more than it appears
• She is naive and sheltered, but asks questions about why things are the way they are
• She has 2 people close to her
• She learns to fight and runs out during an attack to fight
• The MMC is her protector and becomes close to the king
• There is a history where one group are evil and are also the past leaders
• MFC is injured by an evil being who never leaves anyone alive... and its the MMC
• One of her friends is killed during a fight
• The people who attack fight in the name of the leader (who is the MMC) but not on behalf of the MMC
• The MMC is some kind of vampire-like (and will be the missing Prince)
• They escape the kingdom together

Don't get me wrong, I like the Blood and Ash series, I like the characters. And I have hope for this series. But if the rest of the books are the same I'll have to stop reading.
I even looked back at the publishing dates. This one came out a year after Blood and Ash.

There are some things that are different. There is more magic, the magical history and king and queen seem to be different. No gods but magic and fae-like.

Also more talk of the other kingdoms (and this series covers the 4 kingdoms... North, East, South and ai think West too). We are in North kingdom
